Our Story

Transcending trends

Opened in 2020 in Douglas, Co. Cork , House McGrath was created by Carla McGrath with a deep-felt commitment to sustainable retail. Utilising her knowledge of the environment and love for ethically produced interiors, Carla began by championing the dresser, a staple of Irish homes for centuries.

Sourcing solid teak dressers, cupboards, presses and cabinets with decades of history, Carla worked tirelessly with local craftspeople in India to renovate these beautiful pieces for the next stage of their journey.

The collection quickly grew to include sideboards, dining tables, chests and more, complemented by antique and artisinal homewares at the store in Douglas and online.

Our Commitment

The House McGrath Route

We are committed to sourcing interesting furniture and lifestyle items that are environmentally sustainable and ethically produced. We care deeply about our natural environment and about the artisans behind our products.

Slow, mindful and considered are three very important words for us. We celebrate the art and skill of handmade. Slowly handmade.

So, to fulfil our brand commitments and to find the most special and beautiful things, Carla personally sources each of our products directly from the makers. The vast majority of our items are collaborations between ourselves and the makers - allowing us to create really special pieces that are unique to HMcG.

We work on all of our products in India and bring them into Ireland ready. We mix our own colours and apply the colours using an ancient technique that is sympathetic to the age and beauty of the piece.

We don’t order from catalogues and buy mass produced pieces in huge quantities - we have chosen an alternative route. Our House McGrath route.
